Haven't updated in bit, but I'm still drawing and am currenty working on yet another illustration for "TIWIB".  Toddler faces are tricky!

More 'Et in Arcadia Ego' concept art for [livejournal.com profile] dioscureantwins.  I love this series so much!

Concept sketches and practice for another illustration I'm working on for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] dioscureantwins.  I've got a seperate art pad (not shown here) at my work that I use when I'm on break.  Mostly I've been practicing drawing 3D stick figures with the appropriate body proporitions and body language I want to convey.  It's quite challenging to draw a figure that looks natural, rather than posed!

Finally getting around to cross-posting...

Fanart inspired by Beautifufic’s masterful story ‘The Gilded Cage.’

'Are you all right?'

John blinked, realising his friend wasn’t as engrossed in the report in front of him as he’d assumed. ‘I missed you,’ John said, wincing at his inadvertent honesty. ‘I woke up and didn’t know where you’d gone.’

—Ch. 19 of ‘The Gilded Cage' by BeautifulFiction

EDIT: The advantage of having an artist for a mother: constrictive critism.  The disadvantage of having an artist for a mother, you can't unsee mistakes once they've been pointed out.  Image was revised to address the issue of the jawline.

More fanart for [livejournal.com profile] dioscureantwins amazing 'This Is Where I Began' series.

"Sherlock opens the album on his lap. It’s mostly photographs of Daddy and, except for the cut of the clothes, it’s like looking at himself in a mirror. There are some photographs of Daddy and John together, posing for a camera that’s set up on a tree stump or other flat surface." -- Ch. 11 of Perfer et Obdura by dioscureantwins

Another WIP sketch.  Smiling mouths are not easy to draw!

More concept sketches for 'TIWIB'.  Perspective and proper proportions continue to be a challenge, but if I look at what I was drawing a year ago, when [livejournal.com profile] dioscureantwins's stories first inspired me to pick my pencils back up, I can certainly see progress.  Plus, I'm having fun.

Art for [livejournal.com profile] dioscureantwins amazing 'This Is Where I Began' series.

“Look John. What is that?” He stares at the long supple naked line wriggling in the earth.

“That’s an earth-worm, Sherlock.”

I'm on tumblr and AO3 also.

More drawing practice.  I've been posting stuff more to Tumblr recently, so that's another spot to see what I've been up to.  Mostly this is progress.  They're all variants of the same scene, but show the differences between me a) freehanding, b) looking at a stock reference photo, and c) looking at a reference photo that I was able to pose and using demension guides as well.

I've been posting more stuff to Tumblr recently, but here's another practice sketch for young Sherlock a la 'This is Where I Began' by the amazing [livejournal.com profile] dioscureantwins.

Still sketching....I'm getting happier w/ my progress.

More stuff from my art pad (it's been neglected recently in favor of construction efforts).  One is some rough character studies from [livejournal.com profile] dioscureantwins wonderful 'This Is Where I Began' series.  The other two are an intial draft, and then finished version of a scene from prettyvk's 'The James Holmes Chronicles.'

One spaghetti squash, one impromptu photo pose session, one bemused, but amiable spouse, three annoyed cats, one re-located sofa, a spider rescue, and one unplanned segue into spider research later, I'm finally ready to draw...

*chews on pencil* I broke out my light table last night, did some layout sketches (much to the dismay of the cats that didn't like having their bed covered with papers that they weren't allowed to sleep on).  The proportions of adult male to 3 year old child are still giving me fits, as is that blasted, blasted shoulder.... On the flip side, I'm having fun, so I really can't complain.  Cross-posted to Tumblr.

*makes face* Bah.  This week (and part of last week) are officially fired.  I'm going to bed.

I wore a hole in the paper of the top image drawing, erasing and re-drawing the eyes.  Trying again with the bottom image, (which involved an adventure and a half to find my lightbox table from where it was stashed in the attic!).  Cross-posted to Tumblr.

My youngest sister had a birthday this week.  She moved several hundred miles away and out of state this year, so we had to mail her gift.  Considering in the past she’s been the recipient of home-made a dead armadillo birthday cake (a la ‘Steel Magnolias’), a wrapped gift disguised as giant chicken (complete with feathers!), and quirky birthday surprises, just mailing a gift seemed boring.

Fortunately, I have access to office supplies… (also know has ‘my coworkers have learned to be careful about investigating when I’m chortling at my desk.’)

*Update: Just got a phone call from the delighted recipient.  The actual gift is appreciated, but she is definitely keeping the ninja-star impaled, tentacle-encompassed, dinosaur/werewolf/alien/killer-rabbit containing, ominously ticking/whirring/beeping box of doom.

I spent 6 hours in a car on Sunday.  Fortunately, I didn't have to drive, so I got to spend the time on art instead.  I keep flipping back and forth on how I want Daddy to be lying on the couch.  Almost flat on his back, or leaning up against the arm?  There are benefits to both poses...the problem is I keep wanting to combine the two views, and that doesn't work so well.  Decisions, decisions...  Cross-posted to my tumblr account.
