Haven't updated in bit, but I'm still drawing and am currenty working on yet another illustration for "TIWIB". Toddler faces are tricky!

dioscureantwins. I've got a seperate art pad (not shown here) at my work that I use when I'm on break. Mostly I've been practicing drawing 3D stick figures with the appropriate body proporitions and body language I want to convey. It's quite challenging to draw a figure that looks natural, rather than posed!

EDIT: The advantage of having an artist for a mother: constrictive critism. The disadvantage of having an artist for a mother, you can't unsee mistakes once they've been pointed out. Image was revised to address the issue of the jawline.

Feb. 21st, 2015 12:37 pmMore concept sketches for 'TIWIB'. Perspective and proper proportions continue to be a challenge, but if I look at what I was drawing a year ago, when dioscureantwins's stories first inspired me to pick my pencils back up, I can certainly see progress. Plus, I'm having fun.

Jan. 29th, 2015 08:35 pmMore drawing practice. I've been posting stuff more to Tumblr recently, so that's another spot to see what I've been up to. Mostly this is progress. They're all variants of the same scene, but show the differences between me a) freehanding, b) looking at a stock reference photo, and c) looking at a reference photo that I was able to pose and using demension guides as well.

One is some rough character studies from dioscureantwins wonderful 'This Is Where I Began' series. The other two are an intial draft, and then finished version of a scene from prettyvk's 'The James Holmes Chronicles.'

Drawing practice, 8/23/14
Aug. 23rd, 2014 11:29 am*chews on pencil* I broke out my light table last night, did some layout sketches (much to the dismay of the cats that didn't like having their bed covered with papers that they weren't allowed to sleep on). The proportions of adult male to 3 year old child are still giving me fits, as is that blasted, blasted shoulder.... On the flip side, I'm having fun, so I really can't complain. Aug. 10th, 2014 03:46 pmI wore a hole in the paper of the top image drawing, erasing and re-drawing the eyes. Trying again with the bottom image, (which involved an adventure and a half to find my lightbox table from where it was stashed in the attic!). Cross-posted to Tumblr.

My youngest sister had a birthday this week. She moved several hundred miles away and out of state this year, so we had to mail her gift. Considering in the past she’s been the recipient of home-made a dead armadillo birthday cake (a la ‘Steel Magnolias’), a wrapped gift disguised as giant chicken (complete with feathers!), and quirky birthday surprises, just mailing a gift seemed boring.
Fortunately, I have access to office supplies… (also know has ‘my coworkers have learned to be careful about investigating when I’m chortling at my desk.’)
*Update: Just got a phone call from the delighted recipient. The actual gift is appreciated, but she is definitely keeping the ninja-star impaled, tentacle-encompassed, dinosaur/werewolf/alien/killer-rabbit containing, ominously ticking/whirring/beeping box of doom.
Drawing practice, 8/4/14
Aug. 4th, 2014 09:44 pmI spent 6 hours in a car on Sunday. Fortunately, I didn't have to drive, so I got to spend the time on art instead. I keep flipping back and forth on how I want Daddy to be lying on the couch. Almost flat on his back, or leaning up against the arm? There are benefits to both poses...the problem is I keep wanting to combine the two views, and that doesn't work so well. Decisions, decisions... Cross-posted to my tumblr account.
